2016 MAP TO COME!

Welcome to The 5th Annual Sebastian Art Studio Tour  in the beautiful City of Sebastian, Florida.  The Studio Tour, showcasing the diverse creations of 14 Sebastian Artists, will be held Saturday February 13th, 2016, 10:00am to 5:00pm.  Enjoy the day touring the artists' studios and see how and where they create their art.

The Sebastian Art Studio Tour is unaffiliated with any club or organization, it is simply a collection of Sebastian artists whose mission is to raise awareness of the quality of art and the growing community of artists and artisans in this small city on the shores of the beautiful Indian River Lagoon.   The Tour is self-guided, free and open to the public.  Above is the map to guide you to the various studios.  The numbers are random, and are not meant to indicate where to start, so the best way to start is to drop in to the studio nearest to you and move on from there.

This year's artists will be featuring paintings in all mediums and styles, jewelry, silks and other fibers, photography, pottery, ceramics, wood-carving, coastal assemblage, prints and print-making, tile art and sculpture.  You can meet the artists and enjoy refreshments, browse among their new works and purchase art directly from the artists themselves. Whether you are a long-time collector, beginning your collection or searching for the perfect gift (Think Valentine's Day!), the Sebastian Art Studio Tour is a wonderful venue to shop for one-of-a-kind original creations.  Following is more information about the participating artists, in alphabetical order.

Rita Bernstein has been fascinated with silk virtually all her life, having grown up in the family business of manufacturing silk lampshades.  After earning a Masters Degree in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania (in spite of her love of silk), she continued studying and exploring the process of making silk-related art and clothing. From Cape May, to Greece, Israel to Colorado to Florida, Bernstein has sought and found inspiration for her art in the natural world. "Everything in nature," she says "has it's own story to tell, and nature is my greatest teacher."  Rita's beautiful creations have earned numerous awards, and her work resides in galleries, museums, public and private collections across the country.

Judy Burgarella is an award-winning artist and teacher who brought her passion for art from Connecticut to Florida in 2005, immersing herself in the Arts community here in Indian River County.  She has studied under several notable artists in Connecticut and Florida, and her work resides in many private and corporate collections.  She is inspired to paint most any subject from animals to still life, representational to impressionist, however portraiture is her forte.  Judy teaches painting at the Sebastian River Art Club, and is on the faculty of the Vero Beach Museum of Art where she teaches portraiture.  Her work has been represented in many galleries and museums in Connecticut, Maine and Florida, and she accepts commissions in all subjects and mediums including murals.  "Art is a banquet, full of adventure, excitement and beauty," Judy says, "however teaching is the dessert of it all, and to be able to pass that on to others is the greatest gift."

Coastal Assemblages, Mixed Media
My mixed media assemblages feature natural materials self-collected along Florida's Treasure Coast as well as coastal areas throughout the United States, Australia and New Zealand.  A lifelong traveler, materials from beaches and shorelines around the world are incorporated in my innovative creations, reflecting my passion for the ocean and all things coastal or tropical.  I have accumulated quite a selection of natural materials in various coastal environments and now experiment incorporating these special "treasures" into creations with a unique coastal flair.  As an added value, I frequently provide the names of the natural materials used and a brief factoid which adds to viewers' enjoyment and appreciation of the diversity of our beaches and oceans.

Toni Hill
Acrylics, watercolors, prints making, photography.
I have been an artist all of my life, and through the years I have continued to learn and try different styles and mediums, but currently my main focus is on digital photography and printmaking. I also spend some time painting with acrylics and watercolors.  I have a MFA in Computer Graphics from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a BA in Studio Art from SUNY Geneseo in western New York, and am currently an Adjunct Professor at Indian River State College.  I also am a freelance graphic designer, and conduct private private tutoring in computer software. The Indian River Photo Club, Sebastian River Art Club, and the Sebastian Craft Club all keep me busy in my spare time. My husband Chuck and three kids, Alex, Amanda and Eric, scattered across the country, are a constant source of inspiration and support.

Marte McMurry
Fine jewelry using precious metals and unusual gemstones
Tile Art
E-mail: marte@eclipsme.com
Using precious metals and unusual gemstones, each piece of jewelry produced by Marte is unique. Her body of work explores the ancient flow of connectedness toward modern life, thru the artists' manipulation of metals and selection of stones. Often whimsical and with exquisite craftsmanship, each piece reflects life's ever changing tableau thru color, texture and design. All stones are natural and showcase the artist's extensive knowledge of mineral and gemology, as well as fabrication techniques in metal which include: hammering, chasing, reticulation, stamping, granulation, etching, engraving and repousse.  "Art is not a hobby for me," Marte says, "it is a passion, a way of life.  I have to do it—it's an addiction!"  In her spare time she paints and creates beautiful decorative mosaics.  Marty earned an art degree from Georgia State University, and continues to learn new techniques and craft new jewelry designs for her clients and patrons.

Geoffrey Myers
Paintings and Mixed Media
Single Edition Sculptures in Acrylstone
E-mail: geoffreymyers@bellsouth.net
Website: http://www.geoffreymyers.com
Geoffrey Myers studied at the University of Connecticut, where he was the recipient of the David Smith National Student Award, and where he created a major piece for their permanent collection.  He also studied with renowned artist and teacher Anthony Padovano, and at the prestigious Art Students League in NY where his sculpture made the cover of The League’s catalog.  After Geof achieved a degree in Fine Arts, he moved to New York and became prominent in the New York art community, showing regularly in Volpe Gallery in Manhattan and other venues.  Torn between his love of writing and performing music, and creating his art, he still now does both, with an equal amount of passion and creative talent … and success!  “The work environment plays such a big part in any artist’s work,” Geof says, “and I have strived to create an artist-nurturing environment in my home in which to play my music, to paint, to sculpt, and to entertain those who appreciate, enjoy and support the arts.”

Richard Ramirez
Potter, Painter
Email: r123056@gmail.com
Phone: 772-202-7531
Art has always been part of Richard Ramirez' life since he can remember, and it was only natural for him to obtain a job (really a dream), of being able to teach Art, which he did in public education for 36 years. Making way for younger Art teachers, his retirement had enabled him to have more freedom and time to explore those very avenues he laid out for his pupils.  He is a Master Potter, and an accomplished painter in several mediums.  Richard teaches pottery in his home studio, and gives demonstrations for groups.  "I hope the Art I create now," says Richard, "will again stir feelings and emotions from the young as well as from the old."

Mary Segal
Print-Maker, Painter, Teacher
772-589-7759
Mary Segal, painter, print-maker and explorer of all things artistic, has had a long career both as a working, exhibiting artist and as a teacher in schools, museums, and workshops, in Florida and nationwide.  In her home studio she creates stunning monotypes, etchings and drypoints, collagraphs and mixed media prints.  Mary was one of the original faculty at the Vero Beach Museum of Art when it opened in 1986.  Mary has shown her work in over 100 solo and juried group exhibits nationwide, and has won many prizes, grants, and residencies including from The National Endowment for the Arts, and her extraordinary five-year journal project, "The Journal Drawings," was exhibited in the National Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.  Mary graduated from Brown University with a concurrent concentration in studio art the Rhode Island School of Design, and pursued graduate studies at the Akademie of Fine Art in Munich Germany, and at Laguna College of Art in Laguna Beach, California.  Her art is widely collected in Florida and nationally.  Mary continues to teach in her newly-renovated and expanded studio setting, where much of her inspiration is borne.  "Ideas are everywhere," says Mary, " and inspiration can and does come anytime, anywhere and often unexpected."

Suza Talbot
Painting, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Drawing, Teaching

A graduate of the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, she did a post-bac at the University of Florida in ceramic sculpture in 2003-2005; she has worked in clay sculpture, although painting is her chief focus and she downplays the other media.  She is a Florida-certified art teacher and has taught frequently through the years. She conducted a Master’s Workshop at the Vero Beach Museum of Art as well as at the Foosenar Art Museum in Melbourne and at the Daytona Beach Museum; she has exhibited in Ft. Lauderdale, and at the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, among other places.  Although only recently joining the Sebastian River Art Club, her work has been acclaimed and proudly hangs in a gallery space there.  She looks forward to becoming an integral part of the Arts community, and holding classes in her artist-inspired home.  “This art community,” Suza says, “is a match made in heaven for me.”

Roy Woodall
Watercolors, Woodcarver, Framer
Roy moved to Sebastian in 2002, and eventually created an awesome artist's retreat for himself in the back lot of his very tropical property.  Sharing his time between boating and gardening, Roy paints.  His work is indicative of his love of the water and Florida flora.  His interest in art began at a young age and has evolved to focus on watercolor.  He is very active in the Sebastian River Art Club, and shares his knowledge by giving free demonstrations in framing and watercolor techniques.  "Water-related subjects," Roy says, "have kept me interested and growing as an artist."
